Acorn presents EU green claims research at new VisitEngland LVEP Forum

Over the last four years, Acorn has worked alongside VisitEngland on its regenerative tourism workstream, with a particular focus on the certification landscape for tourism businesses and destinations in England.
Earlier this year, our team completed research examining the EU’s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive and what its requirements around green claims and sustainability labelling could mean for the tourism sector in England.
As the new rules move closer to taking effect, tourism businesses and destination organisations need to understand what compliant sustainability messaging looks like and where the risks around greenwashing claims lie. Our research looked at the evolving regulatory landscape and translated this into practical implications for businesses, destinations and the wider tourism sector.
We were thrilled to be invited to present the findings at the launch of VisitEngland’s LVEP Regenerative Tourism Forum, sharing our analysis directly with the network of Local Visitor Economy Partnerships driving regenerative tourism across the country.
As part of the research, we also explored the work being undertaken by Travalyst to strengthen the sustainability certification landscape. We are therefore looking forward to hearing more from Travalyst on 24 September at the Tourism Management Institute (TMI) event, where Anna Duncan, Certifications Project Manager at Travalyst, will share further insight into its certification initiative.
